Hi,
My name is Jonna van Mourik and I'm a second year Fine art & Design teacher student. I'm 22 years old and I live in Rotterdam.
From the category "Post during after covid"
I filtered by "during".
The graphic clearly shows that only a few people have neutral feelings during the corona time. The rest go through situations where their feelings can be clearly categorized by either positive or negative. Because this time is often difficult for people, I want to focus on the positive side, so I will continue with the positive category and analyse the data further.
• What a tekst says
The text is from a Google employee which holds a management position. Like everybody ells in the world he is affected by the during covid-19 crisis in a personal as well in a professional matter.
One of the key messages the text is trying to tell us is that it is key to stay positive during this crisis. A good balance between personal and professional life is essential for the mind body and soul.
First, the Google product owner provides us with 5 tips in how to stay positive at home with your personal life, family and friends. Secondly, he does the same with how you should plan your days of work, and, still be able to get some satisfaction from you accomplished tasks during the day.
He ends the text that staying positive in your personal life as well within your job will contribute in your overall mood during this crisis.
• What a text does
The text is written as a blog. What I like about the text is that he is giving recognizable examples about every day life. Scenarios like mandated working from home, kids at home because of all the schools are closed. All our plans got canceled. These kind of examples are situations every single one of us can relate to, which grabs the attention of the reader in the first paragraph.
The structure is in a logical manner: Introduction at first, the he sums up 5 positivity tips within a personal point of view, secondly he switches over to work related positivity tips and again sums up 5 tips. When the reader finishes his text he closes with a punch line “Stay positive and stay COVID-negative” which obviously has a double meaning in my perspective – Stay positive in you mind body and soul and stay negative with your corona tests. Which in this example means: staying negative on corona will result in a positive feeling.
On a critical side note: The reader could have chosen some deeper examples. Look after others, give yourself a break, do something creative. These are all great tips for obvious reasons but also a bit of a cliché.
• What a text means
In my opinion the text as a whole gives a good example on how you can have a positive body, mind and soul during this crisis the world is facing. They are not all scientifically discoveries at themselves but, as a whole, I genuinely think people can profit from these tips.
These tips are also tangible because you can implement or give a try during your day to day routine and discover if it works for you. This text is written to help its readers, it is not criticizing other methods, or claiming his is the one to go with. The Google manager just gives his opinion is a clear and simple overview and recommends to try it out. It can do no harm to try one of his tips during the day, this is what I like the most about the text.
Critical reading - text of choice
DISCLAIMER
Because not everyone has added their data yet, on May 26th I analysed the data that was in the file at that time, if data is added later, the graphic may not be up to date for now.
A way to spread positivity in corona times
Sharing books in the neighbourhood
- Analyse the "feelings" out of the document and see if I can make tips, poems or little texts out of the "positive" data. To create little inspirational moments in the streets.
Opportunities, hang out the short texts to spread positivity.
- Let positive, neutral and negative speak through form, pattern or color.
- Insight in the time frame, daily routine of the people in quarantine.
- Collecting the data to see or create a pattern.
- Do I want to complete my data later and do I mind if my pattern or outcome
changes as I complete data?
- I want to rate the data by date.
- Looking at the behaviour of people in quarantine.
- Outcome is unpredictable, but I can set certain guidelines for myself.

• What a text says
This blog is about a subject which has my full curiosity because it is an interesting subject. Covid-19 is a crisis on a scale we haven’t experienced in our young lives, a lot of companies and CEO’s haven’t either. So, what does this mean? It is new for everyone and we are experimenting with how to react.
There seems to be this need of companies to be show their online presence during the crisis, who posts the most is the one with the most attention, so it seems. This strategy can backfire real quick as it can get to annoy people with a sense of spamming.
It is important, according to the writer, that you should take some steps into account with your communication strategy, that is what the blog is about.
• What a text does
The writer gives an introduction of some examples you see here in the Netherlands of what can go wrong and CEO’s who seem to adapt very quickly to the situation. It immediately gives food for thought and ask your self if you have experienced the public performances the way he describes it.
After the two introduction paragraphs he comes straight to the list where he sums up 10 tips to apply on your communication strategy as a company. It is a logical list which starts with “collecting all the facts” and ends with “finish you statement with a reassuring message and a call-to-action”. Which seems logical to me.
• What a text means
When seeing the text as a presentation you can have a discussion about all the 10 tips the writer is giving us. Do it in a group discussion and discuss about the opinions of the ones attending the discussion. Communication is no hard science, it is a subjective matter and it gives no assurances that one communication strategy will always ends up having the same results, that is why it is interesting to discuss. I would like to see the blog in the same way. These tips are no 10 rules you should apply and be sure you are successful as a company. It gives you some strongholds while discussing your communication strategy with all the stakeholders. Keep discussing, keep reflecting and keep adapting is the way to go if you ask me.
I filtered the dates that came out positive by date and time. I will continue with the dates that occurred during the crisis.

With these little cards I hope I have sent my neighborhood in the positive direction. And that I can push my neighborhood's data base a little bit more in the positive direction.
For now, I'm letting go of this idea because I feel it's difficult to link my project and process to an algorithm. But I like the idea of sharing my project with people who have nothing to do with the data base.
Irene van de Mheen
Irene van de Mheen makes a point, draws a line, outlines a perimeter, creates a volume, builds a spatial plan, moves through it and outwards and looks at it from a distance and defines its meaning.
Stefan Draschan
The French photographer Stefan Draschan likes to visit museums and that is not only to admire the works of art there, but especially the visitors. Stefan likes to take pictures of people who show a strong resemblance to a work of art. So he puts the ignorant visitor at the centre of his work.
Because the list of dates is limited, I have chosen to make my own data list by my neighbors. I put up a small poster and left it hanging for three days. With the question how my neighborhood felt during the corona. The boxes are like windows where everyone has been hiding behind the last three months. With the pattern that my neighbours sketch because every feeling stands for a colour, the pattern of my neighbourhood is created. With this data I can make a "neighbourhood pattern", or a pattern of our class by using the data collected by us.
Algorithm in color of my neighborhood
Algorithm in color of 'Kier'. Filtered by 'during' and source 'me'
Algorithm in color of 'Meeuwis'. Filtered by 'during' and source 'me'
Algorithm in color of myself. Filtered by 'during' and source 'me'

• What a text says
The ted talk starts right away with her point of view, she's on a mission to fight bias in machine learning. A phenomenon she calls the "coded gaze". These create dishonesty. During her studies, she discovered that her face could not detect on computers. The people who coded the algorithm didn't take into account different skin tones. Because of this problem, she started her investigation.
• What a text does
Joy buolamwini personally starts with a problem of her own that she encountered during her studies. Here she takes a stand, and because this is very personal, it is immediately an eye opener. She continues her presentation more objectively with different observations technical explanations and an invitation to action.
• What a text means
"Social change has to be a priority" It shouldn't become a problem after the fact, but the problem should be tackled at its core. Technology must become accessible and work for everyone.

• What a text says
• What a text does
De tekst begint met het geven van een suggestie, het beginnen van een dagboek bijhouden in tijden van crisis. Vervolgens gaat de tekst verder met overtuigingen aan de hand van geschiedenis voorbeelden en psychologische voordelen.
• What a text means
